Message of the Director

Introduction

The Institute of Turkic Studies at Marmara University will sustain responsibility and mission of research the Turkic cultural fields from historical to modern within Marmara University’s corporate identity and in accordance with the establishment principles of the Institute.

Historical living space of the Turkic language includes approximately eleven million kilometer squares which mean eleven thousand-kilometer latitude from Siberia to the North of Iraq and Syria, from Kashgar to Kosova. The Institute of Turkic Studies at Marmara University will undertake activities such as setting a scientific stage for historical cultural association between the Republic of Turkey, which is in the pivot and representative position of the Turkic world in the west, and the other Turkic states and communities of Turkic origin. It will also carry out updating this stage according to contemporary strategies and geopolitical conditions.

Within this framework, it will continue to be the essential principle of our Institute to examine Turkic entities from historic to modern in an interdisciplinary approach with the other branches of science such as language, which is particularly the essential and indispensable component of culture, history, geography, art history, information and documentation management, archeology, anthropology and international relations.
